          Early Life and Education

Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born on December 28, 1856, in Staunton, Virginia, to Joseph Wilson, a Presbyterian minister, and Janet Woodrow.

His family had Scottish and Irish roots, with his grandparents emigrating from Northern Ireland. As a child, Wilson struggled with reading and received little formal education until the age of 12. He later compensated for this by studying stenography and pursuing his own education.

Wilson attended Davidson College in North Carolina and then Princeton University, graduating in 1879. During his studies, he developed a keen interest in political philosophy and history.
