Aruna Bahuguna Biography

Aruna Bahuguna is a senior IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh, who retired as the Director of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy till February 2017, after 39 years of police service.

She is the first lady IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh. She joined IPS in 1979 and was allotted to the then united Andhra Pradesh State cadre. She served AP as Additional DGP (co-ordination) and DGP (State Disaster Response and Fire Service).

She also worked with Intelligence Bureau and with the Ministry of Home Affairs. She was awarded Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1995 and President's Police medal for Distinguished Service in 2005. She is the first DGP of Telangana.

She schooled from St.

George’s Grammar school, Hyderabad.
